Ross Regatta

Vics try to attend the annual August Bank Holiday regatta at Ross on Wye, although this year the weather was not as favourable for camping as it has been in previous years! On Sunday we had 10 entries, with 4 crews reaching Finals. The WJ18 2x had the closest race of the day, losing to Worcester again by ½ length this time. On Sunday we had 9 entries, with 4 losing finalists. However, the W2x (Rogers) won their Final against Worcester by 4 lengths, having beaten Evesham (2 lengths) and Ironbridge easily. Pumford and Fisher in the other Vics W2x beat Taunton by 11/2 lengths but lost to Worcester in their semi final. We had crews ranging in age from J13 to Masters C at Ross this year and everyone benefitted from the experience of racing on the River Wye. Ross on Wye is a long way to go for a weekend regatta and we must give full support to all the rowers that we send to such events. Our thanks should go to Brigid for towing so far and for having supported the club’s rowers by towing for so many years. Lesley Kuguloglu has also gone far beyond her normal coaching activity, particularly in getting the juniors to these distant regattas.

Considering the appalling weather on the Sunday, our club members showed great resilience and determination to continue rowing at such a high standard. Well done and thanks to all the parents, friends and relatives who camped and supported, took part in dragon boat racing and in general contributed to a fantastic weekend.
