CANCELLATION OF MERSEYSIDE REGATTA – SATURDAY 30TH APRIL 2022

I am very sorry to announce the cancellation of Merseyside Regatta, which was due to take place on Saturday 30th April 2022.

For the last 30 years we have relied on the generosity of our neighbours, Jenkins Shipping and their predecessors, whose yard we have used for car parking and for access to the quayside at Lewis’s Quay for trailer parking.

Unfortunately, Jenkins have now upgraded their security regime. The new 24 hour CCTV is remotely monitored and Jenkins no longer feel that they can allow us access to the yard or quayside. I have been in contact with Jenkins Head Office in Belfast but have been unable to get a response in time to prevent cancelling the event.

We continue to get support from Peel Ports, the Port Police and the North West rowing community.

I hope that we can work on resolving the situation before the Head of the Float on 3rd December 2022. There are potential alternatives for car parking but they will take further work to bring forward. The bigger issue is trailer parking, which must be easily accessible to the water.

Thanks to all the crews that had hoped to compete at the West Float, the umpires who had offered their help, the Sea Scouts and Sea Cadets and all the club members and volunteers who would have given up their time.

We hope to be back!
