Newsletter March – Junior camps – Half Term October 2020

The Autumn Half Term saw some positive activity on the West Float with a series of camps for Liverpool Victoria’s junior members. Whilst Merseyside is in Tier 3 (and on Thursday 5th November will move with the rest of the country into Lockdown), activities for school-age children are currently flexible enough to allow limited rowing and training.

Over 20 junior members attended rowing sessions on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of the Half Term holiday, suitably segregated and with full PPE protection. Small groups came at different times to conform to our Covid19 precautions and risk assessment.

On Friday, Anita Snowdon and her daughter delivered a programme of First Aid training, which is part of a wider programme of skill development that Lesley Kuguloglu, Heather Parry, Anita and the Junior team have produced. Each junior can complete a personal development booklet, showing their progress through rowing skills and other useful skills such as launch handling, water safety and First Aid.

The new Covid19 restrictions coming into force on Thursday 5th November will have to be reflected in less rowing and training activity at the club, although Sam Fairbanks and the Captaincy Team are working to develop new guidelines to help members through the next difficult period. We will endeavour to keep the club open within the new rules and provide as much support as possible to all our members.
