Camping, BBQ ? and oh yeah .. Wins again at Stourport Regatta!!!!

The club attended Stourport Regatta over the weekend of 10th/11th August. We had intended going to camp from Friday evening, but a weather warning of high winds and heavy rain, changed our minds and we just camped on Saturday night. The trailer and crews arrived early on Saturday morning having left at 5:00 am.
We had entries for both days, a mixture of junior, senior and masters categories were represented, some having their first race in single sculls and other old hands, such as Mike Vick, picking up yet another medal to add to his collection.

A women’s double of Hope Ball and Kate Skinner had a win, these young women are relatively new to rowing and are progressing well.
The women’s 8 ( which included Hope and Kate) had a good race against Worcester with an excellent start but their lack of race experience, saw Worcester get ahead of them by a length at the finish.
A men’s 8, with the crew made up to full complement by 2 of the women’s squad, gave a good account of themselves against a Stourport men’s 8, but didn’t manage to maintain the lead they had at the start.
Our junior squad were in a minority for a change, due to holidays, but the few who went got through heats and semi finals only to be beaten in finals.
We are very grateful to Malcolm Green, for agreeing to get up at silly o’ clock to get the trailer down to Stourport in time for the first race. Also to Lesley for giving up her weekend, to look after and mentor both junior and adult crews.
