Head of Float 2021 – Cancelled

I am very sorry to announce the cancellation of Head of the Float, which was due to take place on Saturday 4th December 2021. Unfortunately, the Met Office weather forecast was for winds gusting up to 44 mph, which would make the dock unrowable.

The most important issue is the safety of competitors. Holding our event at the beginning of December means that danger must be minimised and the risks to competitors of being exposed to strong winds are paramount.

This year, it was good to see so many crews wanting to row at the Float and we were particularly pleased to welcome crews from North Wales and Durham. I am sorry that we won’t be able to host them this year.

I would like to thank all club members who have rallied round to help in preparing for the event, even though they won’t be able to see it run. I would also like to thank Peel Ports, Jenkins Shipping and TAG Scaffolding, who have been so supportive and the North West umpires who were willing to commit their time.

We can only look forward to Merseyside Regatta on 30th April 2022 and next year’s Head of the Float on 3rd December 2022.
