Busy Weekend for Liverpool Vics members

The weekend of 20th and 21st November saw Vics’ members in Boston and Lancaster. Emily Bernhem was in Boston for the GB U19 water trials and performed well, being 4th of the North West triallists. Megan Knight from Trentham finished 1st with an exceptional time but Emily finished her 5k water trial solidly in the pack. Next stop is the British Indoor Rowing Championships, which will involve some difficult time management, as it is on the same day as the Head of the Float (4th December) and Emily wants to compete in both! Luckily, the Indoor Rowing Championship ergometer performance can be entered remotely and doesn’t require a trip to London! Thanks to Emily, her parents and Lesley Kuguloglu for getting this far.

The club sent a strong contingent to Lancaster for the Head of the Lune on Sunday 21st November, with wins for the Womens 8+ and Graham Barnett in MasA 1x (Sam Fairbanks came 2nd in this event). Unfortunately, the Womens MasE 8+ scratched with no opposition and the Womens MasE 4x-, Sam Crowe in Op 1x and Chris Rycroft and Paul Campbell in MasA+C 2x finished outside the winning times.

Lancaster was the first head race of the season for many of these rowers, as previous events have been heavily subscribed and entries have not been possible. After Head of the Float, the head season starts again in January and February.

Don’t forget to sign up for the volunteer rota for Head of the Float and come down to support your club!
