LVRC put in a great performance at Runcorn Spring Head
The Women’s squad entered a MastersE and Womens Open eight at Runcorn Spring Head on Saturday 5th March 2022. In the morning division, the MastersE eight was beaten by a very fast Royal Chester crew, whilst in the afternoon division, the Open eight finished third of six crews.
It was a busy weekend, with the trailer loaded for the North West Junior Time Trials on Sunday 6th March. The trials were held at Northwich and the club entered three crews: Open J15 coxed quad, Open J16 1x and Womens J15 1x. The quad finished fourth of five crews and Will Elliott also finished fourth of five scullers in his category. The best performance of the day was Grace Rhead, who followed up her win at Warrington Head of the Mersey with a win in her single. The Junior Time Trials are used to select crews for the Junior Inter-regional Championships, to be held on Saturday 23rd April 2022. Let’s hope that we hear some positive news from the selectors!
Earlier in the week, the club’s juniors had submitted ergometer times to the Youth Rowing project. Will Elliott, Haig and Ethan Bainbridge, Patrick Saunders, Joe Summers and Grace Rhead, all put in very good times, which they will use on the water to continue to improve their sculling performances. In all, fourteen of our juniors submitted times to the indoor event, all showing improvements over the winter.
North of England Head is the next event on the calendar, on Sunday 20th March, followed by Northwich Spring Head on Sunday 3rd April. Merseyside Regatta follows on Saturday 30th April and marks the beginning of the summer regatta season! If you haven’t already volunteered, please speak to Sam Fairbanks, who is putting together tasks and a volunteer rota.
Thanks once again to Ray Percival for the complicated weekend, towing to Runcorn and Northwich. Thanks also to Lesley for her coaching and support to the squads and thanks to the parents who supported and helped to run the Time Trial event on Sunday.
