Fantastic results from the English Indoor Rowing Championships, held at the Manchester Velodrome. Vics sent a strong team of juniors (and some adults competed as well!).

January is traditionally cold (and as I write this, wet!) and the weather doesn’t make it very pleasant on the water. However, the winter months are crucial to ensuring good performance in the summer. The long hours on the ergometer will pay off with enjoyable rows in the regatta season. This year’s Chester Long Distance Sculls was postponed from September (when we hadn’t entered due to towing difficulties) to 25th November. Vics entered 9 crews, ranging from WJ15 to Mens Masters G. Thanks to John Sargent for the loan of his tow car and for Matt Myers for driving.

Congratulations to Mike Vick and Kate Wilson whose training paid off with a win at the Lincoln to Boston Marathon. This 31 mile epic is run each autumn and is a real test of stamina. Mike and Kate posted 4hrs 47 minutes to win their class.
Sam Fairbanks had a harder time in Open 1x, where there was a wide range of competitors.

As usual, Vics entered a lot of crews at the last regatta of the year at Hollingworth Lake. In the past, we have won the Victor Ludorum, both for the Juniors and the Seniors. This year however, there was stiff competition for our 25 entries. In spite of the competition we had 16 finalists and had 7 wins. Unfortunately, no Victor Ludorum this year!

Vics entered 7 crews at Warrington Regatta, with 4 losing at the semi final stage and two finals. The Open 1x was an all Vics final between Sam Crowe and Arvind Mahendran, with Sam winning. The WMasC/E 4+ stroked by Joanne Harrison lost in the final to Trafford.
